Cashbluge.com review and rating

With the advent of Web 2.0, it has become all the more easier for bloggers and writers to earn money from home as the internet slowly becomes accessible to even more people everyday. However, having the ability to rake in profits from writng online is one thing, actually succeeding at it is a totally different story as it's not easy for most people. However, there are many blogs online that are devoted to teaching you how to make money online, and Cashbulge.com is one such site.

Cashbulge.com is a blog that constantly gives a plethora of tips about how one is able to make money online. The topics it covers range from how to increase traffic for your site to even how to make money through other sources besides blogging alone. The site is relatively new, having just opened this month, however the content thus far is extremely good. The posts are easy to understand and extremely informative and the topics covered are relevant to almost anybody who is trying to blog for profits. For example one post explains what you should do if you exceed your bandwidth limit when there's a sudden surge in visitors because of social bookmarking websites such as digg or reddit. Therefore, the information available on the site will be extremely helpful for most people who are interested in blogging.

Furthermore, unlike many other blogs, the layout of this one looks very professional despite only being less than a month old. The page is relatively clean and tidy, thus making it easy to navigate around the site. However, my only gripe with it is the huge banner the top of the page right beside the site's logo. It's almost distracting at times, however for those of you using ad-blockers it shouldn't be a problem.

Cashbulge also installed a special plugin that will link the people who commented the most on the blog in the sidebar. Thus, if you would like your site to be linked from Cashbulge, commenting on it would be a very good idea.

Being a new site, one should not expect too much from Cashbulge for now, as there is still quite little content on it as compared to many other more established blogs. While the information they provide is very useful, there isn't much new content as a lot of it has been offered on other sites. However the thing that sets it apart from those sites is its relatively clean layout and easily understandable posts. Thus, as long as new posts continue to appear and the amount of content continues to increase, this site will definitely become all the more popular.

All in all, Cashbulge.com is a really promising website that will continue to grow to become even bigger in the future. With the blog being constantly updated with very relevant posts, you should definitely check this site out if you're wondering how to succeed in the virtual world.

Tsotsi by Athol Fugard

ReviewColumn's rating :
1 star

Tsotsi by Athol Fugard review and ratingWhen Athol Fugard first wrote Tsotsi back in 1961, he abandoned it almost immediately, feeling that it was "not worth publishing". However, in the late 1970s, this novel was rediscovered by research students who were going through South African playwright's papers. After which, it was then edited and polished for publishing, thus allowing the whole world to discover this "lost novel". However, in my opinion, the publisher should have stood by Fugard's initial reluctance to publish this book, as this novel would have been better off if it had remained "lost".

The first few chapters of Tsotsi are interesting enough. To start off, Tsotsi is a young gang leader in the middle of South Africa, he has no recollection of his past, does not even know his own age and is insistent on letting the past stay hidden from him. At the beginning of the book, Tsotsi and his gang immediately pull off a job in a train, killing a random commuter after stealing his wallet, and of course escaping safely. That opening chapter really had me hooked on to the book, since I was expecting even better things to come. They did when Tsotsi suddenly receives a baby after he tries to attack a woman who pushes the baby into his hands. He then brings the baby home and tries his best to look after him, however, this baby has a tremendous impact on his life, as he invokes feelings in Tsotsi like he never felt before, like actually "feeling" for another one of his victims who he eventually let escape.

However, from then on, the entire book just goes downhill. Page after page after page is filled with emotions that are invoked within Tsotsi, and it seems to go on forever and ever. Sure, there is some amount of development in the plot, but on the whole the book starts to get extremely repetitive and seems to be heading nowhere at all. Regardless, I continued to plow through all the minute details, hoping that all would make sense once I reached the ending. However, I was left with my mouth open by the time I finished reading the last paragraph of the book, as I had absolutely no idea where that ending suddenly came from. I won't mention how it ends here, just in case you might still want to read this book, however I should warn you that the ending is relatively abrupt and there is practically no build up to it at all, and by the time you finish the book you'd be scratching your head wondering why you even bothered to plow through the entire book.

Still, the overall plot of this book is something pretty rare and not one which you would find in most books nowadays, thus making for a pretty interesting read at times. The twists in the plot and the eventual revelation about Tsotsi's past will get you excited in the book for awhile as well. However, such highlights of the book are immediately succeeded by the usual pointless fillers in between which add almost zero value to the overall plot.

As a side note, this book was adapted into a major motion picture film of the same name which eventually won an Academy Award for "Best Foreign Language Film" in 2006. While the overall plot remained the same, a lot of details were tweaked to make it suitable for the big screen. Unfortunately I have not watched the film and am thus unable to comment about it.

All in all, I would advise almost everyone to stay away from this book. Despite it's short length, it can become boring for many very quickly. However, for those of you who would like to step into the mind of a young gang leader in South Africa who is rediscovering his past and thus at the same time having emotions pent up inside himself, you might want to check out this book.

Pros: Interesting and unique overall plot
Cons: Gets extremely boring and repetitive midway through, most of the book seems to add little value to the plot, ending will have you scratching your head.

Seagate 5gb USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive

ReviewColumn's rating :
4 stars

Seagate 5gb USB 2.0 Pocket Hard DriveWith so much digital media for people to store in today's time and age, external storage devices have also kept on growing in size, what with 1 terabyte hard drives being produced. To many people, this is a life saver as many have been searching for some way to store all the things on their computer in an external drive as they are running out of space extremely fast. However, many other people might think that having a 1 terabyte drive is almost ridiculous as, to them, it's next to impossible to have that much things to store. While many people (including me) will disagree with them, Seagate definitely listened to them, and thus created their very own 5gb external hard drive for people who need slightly more than what a thumb drive has to offer but less than a full blown external hard drive.

The Seagate 5gb Pocket Hard Drive first debuted in the market 2 years back and brought with it a brand new idea: a small, compact external hard drive that had lesser space than most external storage devices. To many, it might seem ridiculous for Seagate to introduce this drive which had extremely limited storage space. However, to others, this was heaven, as many did not want to carry about a heavier external hard drive which had a lot more space as they simply did not require that much space. Thus, this was the perfect solution as it was relatively lightweight and, as the name suggests, could fit into their pockets. The storage space was also adequate for most who might want to simply transfer documents or the rare movie clip and some media with them. Thus, it became a major hit among this group of people.

I recently got one for myself when the need arose for slightly more storage space in a compact device, and I'm extremely satisfied with this product, to say the least. While it spins slightly slower than most hard drives, at 3600rpm instead of 5400rpm, it doesn't seem significantly slower than them, thus there isn't a major performance difference. I've already been using it for months, and it still hasn't caused any trouble for me, always working as expected. When it is plugged in, there is also a blue light that will signify when the drive is processing information.

The design of the drive itself is also extremely unique. The device measures just under 7cm across and is very light as well. The grey cover can be slid aside to reveal the usb cable which can be extended to roughly 15cm. Once you're done using the drive, the cable can then be wrapped neatly around the drive, thus covering up the cable and preventing it from becoming damaged. The drive itself is also pretty durable as even though I've treated it pretty roughly, it still works like a charm.

All in all, while this drive will not be able to satisfy the demand for more storage space for many people, it will definitely come in handy when smaller files need to be carried about. While many people might prefer flash drives, this hard drive will still be useful when more files need to be stored. Thus, this is a definite must buy for anyone who requires a few more gigabytes of external storage space.

Pros: Small, lightweight, durable, suitable storage size for many people.
Cons: Slower than most other hard drives and flash drives.

United 93 (2006)

ReviewColumn's rating :
4 stars

United 93 (2006)September 11, 2001 is a day that the world will remember for a very long time, no one will forget the attacks that caused the twin towers to fall anytime soon. It caused the death of thousands of innocent and sparked the war on terror that has caused the deaths of even more American soldiers. While it's hard to forget the two planes that crashed into the twin towers, most people won't remember the actions of the staff and passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 that allowed it to be the only plane out of the four that were hijacked that fateful day to not hit its target: the US Capitol Building. United 93 (2006) is a movie directed by Paul Greengrass that aims to tell the tale of the ill-fated United Airlines Flight 93.

I won't go about reviewing this film as I usually would, because it's extremely different from any other normal Hollywood film. It adopts a documentary style as it tells the entire story of United 93, sans the narrator, from pre-takeoff till the very moment when the plane crashed. None of the passengers are given actual characters, and at the end of the show you probably won't even know any of their names. Even the hijackers themselves aren't very prominent and they only become more important characters when the hijacking actually begins. While this is an extremely unique and unorthodox style for a movie, the film is similarly about a very different and very real topic. Thus, it's important that it doesn't follow the usual Hollywood style and exaggerate everything, as that's certainly not what Americans would want. This movie has a great style that fits in very appropriately with the theme and topic that the film is dealing with.

Furthermore, I think it's also fitting that a foreigner directed this film instead of it having an American director (Paul Greengrass is from the UK). Not only is he an extremely accomplished director, having been nominated for an Academy Award and also winning a BAFTA award, but it would be more appropriate for someone like him to direct a movie about 9/11. The style he has chosen to use for this film also works perfectly, and he tries to stick to the facts as close as possible. This results in a film that tells the story of how the passengers onboard United 93 died in the process of preventing the plane from meeting its mark.

Of course, just because this movie is not a common Hollywood movie you'd usually see, that doesn't mean it's any less inferior. Even while the actors aren't given very solid characters, all of them still manage to portray their characters extremely well. The calmness before takeoff, while none of them expect anything out of the ordinary to happen, then the fear that sets in once the hijackers start doing their jobs, and finally the bravery that was required to fight back against the terrorists. The actors who portray the hijackers also show how contrasting their personalities are, one of them is ruthless, while the other two are usually apprehensive, and the pilot is just plain nervous most of the time. Thus, even when the actors aren't given proper characters, they still make you feel for them. You'll cheer on the passengers, feeling worried about them, and also hate the hijackers. It's not an easy feat to be able to emotionally connect with the audience even when the actors don't have the usual solid characters, but they've done an amazing job and will definitely move you emotionally.

While the movie adopts a style that's similar to a documentary, it still looks and feels like any other movie. The effects, camera work and everything else are all still extremely professional. The only difference is in the way the story is told, thus one need not worry about watching a second rate movie that has shoddy camera work and a low budget, because this film certain doesn't.

The passengers of United 93 gave their lives to prevent the terrorist operation from being a success, and it's only right that they be commemorated appropriately. In my opinion, United 93 (2006) is the perfect film to tell the tale of these passengers as the director has taken a completely objective view to this topic, leaving out all the usual drama and sensationalism, it merely tells the truthful tale of the fourth plane that was hijacked on September 11, 2001.
