With so many games constantly being released on the PC, it’s become the favourite gaming machine for many people as it’s arguably the best platform to play first person shooters on, though console fanboys (Xbox 360 and PS3 alike) will beg to differ. However, besides these great video games that require an insanely new graphics card and loads of RAM to play, many people often forget that there are countless flash games online for you to enjoy. While some of these are definitely substandard (as doing the dishes would probably be more fun that playing them), there are still many out there that will make you waste hours and hours on them since they’re so ridiculously fun and addictive due to their simplicity. One such game that most people won’t stop playing anytime soon is Boxhead: More Rooms.
Boxhead: More Rooms is an online flash game that is able to be played using any decent web browser which has the Flash plugin installed. The game itself is something like a side scroller, but as the name somewhat suggests you’re in a single room. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly violent screenshot with so much blood all over the place, in actual fact it’s a really fun game. Basically, the objective of the game is to survive as long as possible while killing as many boxy zombies at the same time. It’s seriously that simple, however the way in which you kill zombies is the fun part. Initially, you start off with a lowly pistol that you have to use to take on the first wave of zombies. However, as you kill more and more zombies, your score multiplier will slowly increase and as your multiplier goes higher and higher, you gain even more weapons, ranging from a shotgun to a rocket launcher, or upgrades to the weapons which you currently have, such as an increase in the maximum amount of ammunitions you can hold or the amount of damage your weapon does. While this may sound boring to some, it’ll become immediately apparent as to how fun the game is with this system once you start playing it. You get 10 weapons over the course of the game, with the more advanced weapons being extremely hard to obtain since the multiplier required is so high and you might not be able to kill zombies fast enough. You get weapons such as grenades which split into 4 separate grenades when you throw one of them, explosive barrels which do massive amounts of damage to the surrounding area when fired at, claymores which activate when a zombie steps over it and then proceeds to explode right under their feet (or rather stumps), a rocket launcher that you’ll undoubtedly use to accidentally kill yourself one too many times as the splash damage it does is really too big. There are a lot more weapons such as your railgun, your good old UZI and several other weapons.
While this game might be quite pointless as the only thing you’re aiming for is to obtain as high a score as possible, one will definitely enjoy oneself thoroughly while you’re playing this game. The secret to this game is simply in its simplicity. Arrow keys to move your character around the screen, the numerical keys to change the current weapon you’re using and the spacebar to shoot, how much harder could it get? Almost anyone who starts playing this game will immediately be able to start enjoying him or herself by killing zombies using the game’s unique weapons. While this might seem violent or almost lame at first, you’ll no doubt begin to laugh at the pure stupidity of this game and in the process of doing so enjoy yourself. In my opinion this game has found the perfect balance between being simple enough to pick up and play and yet have sufficient depth to keep people playing it which is not an easy thing to do. Most flash games are either too complicated to start playing as they’re simply not worth your time to try to learn how to play it, while others might be fun initially, but after doing the same thing over and over again for some time, the game gets boring quickly. Boxhead: More Rooms definitely does not have this problem as you’ll definitely come back to play this game time and time again whenever you have some spare time on your hands.
One of the reasons why I chose to write about this game is because, like almost every other flash game online, it’s completely free. There are so many links all over the web to this game and a simple google search should return plenty of relevant results. For easy reference, the link to the original game on the creator’s website can be found here.
